4Overall a great product
By Daniel Dzubow
A little background - I bought this in mid-February, so I've had it for a little over a month. I use it 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes to an hour per workout. My wife has used it 2-3 times as well, so we've probably put about 10-15 hours on it so far.

I went ahead and purchased this elliptical based on the reviews of the previous model, knowing that it came with certain upgrades to address the negatives written about the 420. Like others have mentioned, assembly took around 3 hours by myself with a step backwards every once in a while to double check my work. I also took the initiative to purchase lubricant and apply it to all the moving joints as I assembled. This is what I used based on others reviews: Permatex 81981 White Lithium Grease, 10.75 oz. Aerosol Can

The LCD screen isn't bad, but it's nothing to rave about either. If you are looking for a simplistic display that will get you started on your workout in a matter of seconds, this is for you. If you're looking for full diagnostics and dozens of options, you will probably want to look at a higher price-point.

One of my main disappointments is that there doesn't seem to be an instructions on how to set up a user profile to track and store my information. The features say that you can have up to 6 profiles, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get it past "Guest". I consider myself pretty tech-savvy, so this is something that was a bit surprising to me. I did note in another review a similar remark and noticed they said they found instructions online. I plan to check into this and may revise my review after my findings.

Another issue that I found is that the elliptical squeaks on occasion. I've pinpointed the noise to inside the main wheel-well, which unfortunately is not a user-assembled part, so in order to have it checked out I'd have to have a technician come. I decided to live with it...for now. The squeaking will occur nearly every workout, but will only last a minute or 2 and then go away. I haven't been able to figure out what makes it happen, which is a bit frustrating. This hasn't seemed to effect the performance of the machine however, so overall, not a huge problem in my opinion.

In the end, this is a good elliptical for the casual user at a very decent price. I'd recommend it to anyone who asked. I'd just be sure to include that you will need to be prepared to put in some elbow grease to build and maintain the equipment.

4Compact and strong
By Ferdinand Avila Medina
This machine is solid. Took 2 hours to assemble at a slow pace. Compact design feels very strong, stable and durable. Built on the reputation of previous model (420) and performance doesn't disappoint. The only CON is the quality of the LCD screen. Feels very cheap (therefore only 4 stars). Display base fits my 7" Google Nexus tablet perfectly, but the ipad only fits in portrait mode. If you're looking for a nice display experience, you'll hate it. If you're looking for a strong workout and durability, you won't be disappointed.

4smooth in motion, strong in built
By morning fog
Assembling this machine took about 2.5 hours for me with a little help from my kid. It took longer than I expected with many bolts and nuts, yet the process was easy and the instructions were not confusing. I don't think it's impossible to assemble this alone, yet a little help is nice. Once the assembly was done, I had to move it around for proper position, so I worried that I would have a difficult time, but it was very easy to move it around with the wheels under the front base.

Now I've been using this for about one month, 3 times a week, for a one hour workout. My first impression from the images on the website was that this machine would provide disappointing results. I don't know why, but this machine just looked 'weak' in the photos. But after my first try, that visual impression was gone. This elliptical is not weak. It is totally strong and built strong. Frames, joint parts, bolts, and nuts are heavy duty strong stuff. It was the thickness of the arm frame that gave me the false impression. So the built quality is nice, and it can handle a fast and rough workout quite smoothly. I was actually surprised how smooth it was. Because the ones I've been using at my gym weren't that smooth. Unlike treadmills and stationary bikes, ellipticals can be uncomfortable depending on the person or brand. I found this one is comfortable, stable, and smooth compared to the machine I use at my gym. Of course, the ones at the gym are real commercial quality that were designed to hold and last forever and cost probably quadruple, but that doesn't mean the machine 'fits' all and makes everyone happy.

Performance wise, this Schwinn 425 does well. Whether I go really fast at low levels or go slow at an upper level, it gives me the feel of stability and comfort. The huge footplates is nice as well for balancing during the workout. There are eight (including manual and fitness test) different workout programs which were fun to try and achieve. 16 levels (Amazon's description says 12, but actually has 16 levels) magnetic resistance gives me a nice number of options to choose from. I could hardly go over 9. Usually after 30 minute workout, I get soaked in 'raining' sweat. It seems to me that this elliptical is twice as efficient than a stationary bike.

However, there are also few things I want to address. The main console is designed to station an iPad or any other tablet about the same size, but I could only put my iPad vertically. If you like to read a magazine or something during a workout, this vertical positioning is great, but not for watching TV shows or movie clips. I can still watch it vertically, but it would be nice with a bigger size when horizontally put. Secondly, the speaker is useless. I never have high expectations from built-in speakers on a machine, but this speaker's output level is even lower than my iPad's. And then, there's a fan built into the console. It's nice to have a little fan during workout, but the angle is fixed. I couldn`t benefit from the fan because I'm short. I wish the fan was angle adjustable. Lastly, the heart rate sensor is inaccurate. Based on my personal experience, the heart rate I got from this machine was off by around 10.

Overall, this is a well built, sturdy machine offered at a reasonable price. There are few minor things I wish it had offered or designed differently, but nevertheless, it serves and holds its core value at high level, in my opinion.
My final thoughts or suggestions for this elliptical is to have bluetooth technology incorporated for tracking workout records and sharing it. There are great apps and accessories like RunKeeper, Nike+, fuelband, or fitbit and, yes, I can simply use fuelband or fitbit. But I thought it would be nice if the machine just can do the same without my buying extra accessories. It's 2013, and almost everybody has a smartphone.
