5Talk about fun! A huge incentive to get us moving!
By Pamela Forte
It's September 28th, 2013! Spark People just introduced their brand new Spark Wireless Activity Tracker a week ago, I ordered it, it came 2 days later and yes, I love it!

I had spent a month looking at other reviews for other trackers and was almost ready to buy one - when I got the offer from sparkpeople.com in my email! I was already a member at their website so imagine how happy I was that I found out they had this new tracker available! It's half the price of other trackers and their website is second to none! I ordered right away! I admit - I knew nothing of all these cell phone apps and trackers that others were using. But - I knew I needed to get moving. My health is at risk. The Spark Wireless Activity Tracker will do - just that!

It's small. About the size of a quarter. Pretty little lights - light up to show your progress as you reach your daily goals. It's uncomplicated. Hey, our lives are complicated enough - give me simple to use anyday! It's waterproof too. The clip is holding on nicely, however, that's one thing I worry about - and that's losing it. I wish there was a way to pin it onto ourselves. However, all trackers on the market for the most part has the clip-on feature or wrist bands which can come off too. Will be curious to see which company will be the first to make a "pin-on" along with the "clip-on". (hint-hint)

What's fun too is it automatically syncs with your computer and uploads your stats. You do nothing but stand by your computer and wha-la - stats upload! The website is on my toolbar and yes, I find myself clicking on it during the day to see how much I have moved. Because of a health issue in 2010 - the Spark Wireless Activity Tracker will be a huge incentive to keep me moving. I'm starting out slow but have no worries I will succeed. I succeeded the past 1 1/2 years with my new way of eating - I can certainly do this too and this tracker is the ticket! :-)

Additionally, Spark People has made it available to where you can post at your Social Network like Facebook - all your stats - where everyone can "cheer" you on. I have not tried that feature yet - but suffice to say - seeing others post their stats on Facebook was the one reason I have started this adventure myself! So yes, this feature is yet another huge incentive to keep you moving. That doesn't account for the Spark People website itself. Top-rated and fun! Click on "about" at the website and see how it all came about. One of the biggest reasons I signed up years ago was because of their story. Bravo to the huge heart of the gentlemen that started it. An endearing story indeed! :-)

I will be back with further input as I use my new Spark Wireless Activity Tracker. I have to give it a 5 stars because it's an awesome product thus far. I wish I could buy a few for some close friends that's suffering like I have previously. I am starting workout classes October 15th for them. However, I am posting on Facebook this weekend - to invite them to join me and hoping they too - will try the Spark Wireless Activity Tracker.

So, yes, I am happy to endorse Spark People of which has worked hard for all the rest of us - by encouraging us to get healthy! So, get your friends together too, get your new Spark Wireless Activity Tracker and let's all get healthy! You will be glad you did! :-)

5Affordable and Accurate Motivator
By Janet Ruminski
As a member of SparkPeople.com, I was excited to learn that an activity tracker was becoming available to purchase through the site. I've lost 95 pounds over the course of the last two years using the resources at SparkPeople, and have about 30 more to go before I reach goal. After buying and using the Spark Activity Tracker for only a short amount of time I can tell you it is easily worth the price.

When I first started trying to lose weight, I was confused as to which products to get between a Fitbit, Bodymedia, NikePlus watch with GPS, Heart Rate Monitors and all the other gadgets on the market. Also, knowing how I tend to spend money and then forget to use gym memberships and other gadgets in the past, spending hundreds on another weight loss gadget was scary, so I never bit the bullet. However, when I found the Spark Activity Tracker, I instantly bought in.

It is able to track walking, running, indoor cycling and elliptical rather easily. It is important to note that you must keep moving for 10+ minutes to have the activity count as an actual "workout" because the normal walking activity of everyday life is usually taken into account when figuring out calories and nutritional as well as exercise information on the SparkPeople site. However, it will track all walking activity, but if using the site, just keep in mind that only 10+ constant minutes of movement will register as "workouts."

It is easy to calibrate by walking a set distance then syncing your data with your computer, and using the calibrate option on the website. Mine needed very little calibration. I walked a set 2 miles and it registered as 2.04 miles so I was pretty happy with it. I definitely get the most accurate readings when it is placed on my shoe with the open end of the clip facing towards the toe. It still records worn on the waistband or bra, but I didn't take enough time to really study that once I realized how accurate it was on my shoe. I wear this one on my black flats at work, no laces required! But when I've worn it on my laces during my runs, it seems very secure.

If you are looking for something that can accurately give you a calorie burn, or track high intensity workouts like kettlebell or Crossfit type workouts, it may be better to go with a Heart Rate monitor or some other more expensive type of device, because the Spark Activity Tracker can only estimate calorie burn based on the weight you enter into the SparkPeople website, but I'd say mine is pretty close. Also, it doesn't have a GPS, so you can't track where you've run like you can with a GPS watch.

It doesn't have a digital display to give you updates, but by tapping it 5 times, it will show you lights to give you an update of how close you are to goal. There are 12 lights, and the default daily walking goal is 6,000 steps which means each light is 500 steps. So if you tap it 5 times, it will show you a number of lights, such as 6 lights = 3,000 steps so far.

This product is affordable, and a great motivator if you are looking to reach small attainable goals. If you are looking for an item that does it all, such as detect heart rate, GPS tracking, and digital display, then you'll have to be willing to spend the big bucks.

As for me, I'll keep Sparking.

5Sparks Your Motivation
By Beth D
Tracks things like elliptical machines and knows how to tell if you are shopping, playing with the kids or walking. It is great that it's waterproof and can handle a trip through the washer, as that ruined my FitBit. This lets you challenge yourself against yourself daily! Go for that extra step, it counts! ~indygirl
