5Loving it so far
By Jeremy Berquest
I read hundreds of reviews about the various Horizon Fitness products listed on Amazon, and finally decided to purchase the EX-69-2, the successor to the EX-69 elliptical. The EX-69 had a lot of favorable reviews- at the time there were no reviews for the new model so I was hesitant. My initial impression with this model has been excellent. First, take the reviewers seriously when they say this is a large package! The box arrived on a pallet and weighed over 200 pounds, be sure to have some help moving it. I ended up doing what one reviewer suggested in other reviews and moved the parts individually into the room where it would be assembled.

The box had some dings on the outside, but upon opening the package, its clear a lot of thought went into packaging it. The top of the box is reinforced with a wooden support, presumably to add structural strength to such a bulky item. There was no damage to any of the components inside. The parts themselves are labeled L and R, easing assembly. The instructions were pretty straightforward, I'd suspect anybody who has ever assembled Ikea furniture will be able to successfully put this together. I took other reviewers advice and applied some white lithium grease to all moving parts. During assembly it will be pretty evident areas that will be moving. So far I haven't experienced any of the dreaded squeaks that other users have complained about.

I found the overall quality of the Elliptical to be outstanding for a sophisticated exercise machine priced so reasonably. All parts appear to be strong and well welded. I didn't experience any of the thread issues other reviewers had with some of the older versions, everything went together very smoothly. Perhaps Horizon took a hint from all the Amazon reviews and is more observant to quality control.

The interface is basic monochrome green but very functional. There are several programs built in, though I typically just opt for the quick-start and adjust the resistance as desired. The built-in fan is a nice touch, it aims right at my face, though other users might have a different experience based on their height. The heart rate monitor works well and is very responsive. I cannot attest to the accuracy it provides, however. A previous reviewer noted the beeps the console makes. I agree that the elliptical is very loud to start, however there are volume controls built in that turns this down. A tip- if you press and hold the volume button, it will continue to turn the volume down, instead of hitting the button repeatedly and having it beep with each button press. The volume adjustment will not holdover after the machine goes into "energy-save" mode though.

Exercising with the elliptical was very similar to my experiences with elliptical machines I have used at the gym. Initially I thought the stride might be 1/2 to 1 inch shorter than commercial machines, but the stride wasn't bothersome after a minute or two. Admittedly, its been a while since I've been to the gym, so my recollection of my experience with those machines might be hazy. The only downside if I were to name one so far is that this elliptical feels slightly less stable than commercial models. I suspect that since this is a more compact machine that it just doesn't have the bulk and width that stabilizes more expensive machines. With that being said, it didn't impede my workout at all. Incline adjustment is simple. I haven't used it too much in my workouts so time will tell how useful the feature is.

So far I have been very pleased with this purchase. I hope to have many years of trouble free use out of it. If I experience any issues I will update accordingly.

3Horizon 69-2 Elliptical: For the price, Not bad!
By Olivia
After spending quite some time researching, comparing, and reading tons of reviews regarding various brands of Elliptical machine, I decided to buy "Horizon 69-2" from Amazon since the reviews were a bit better.

Within a couple days after placing the order, I received a call for delivery arrangement & the machine was delivered 5 days later without any problem other than the fact that as other reviewers stated the box is very heavy (easily over 200lbs). The delivery guy told me point blank that his job is just to drop off the box in loading dock area; I'm a 5ft tall, 130lbs female, thank God for elevator & the very nice, helpful & strong HOA maintenance gentleman that help me get the box to my unit.

As the box got off the truck, I noticed a few dents which show up on a couple of the parts as I unpacked, but nothing major (just some scratches & a slightly damage 'left Lower Handlebar' that I'll need to get a replacement for). Other than that, the parts were nicely packaged & seemed to be all there. But the 2 bits of tools provided can't really do the job without a screwdriver.

The elliptical was easy to assemble thanks to the instructions provided. My 12 years old son & I got it done within 2 hrs or so, but we couldn't completely finished the job since the 'left Upper Handlebar' refused to be set in place. I think the bar is defective or the built-in screws are in too deep. Also, there's an annoying clunky sound that seems to be coming from the left side, and I have no clue why is that happening. Quick observation: any issue with this elliptical so far is from the left side (I don't know if that has any significance or not).

Overall, aside from the few issues mentioned, I think this is a good home workout machine! I would recommend it if you can't afford a better quality one. I will be contacting customer service tomorrow for replacement parts & questions regarding the clunky sound, and I'll post an update. I usually don't take time to review any product in such details, but having able to find so many reviews to use as a guide prior to purchasing this elliptical made me realize the importance of taking a few minutes to post a review that might actually help someone.

Review follow-up: Reaching a customer service representative wasn't an easy task. I had to call 3 times and wait on hold for a long while before I finally reach someone. I have this elliptical since the 2nd of July, it is now July 20th and I can't use it because I'm still waiting on parts to arrived. I have to say it's quite frustrating considering I spent $800 on this machine & was very excited at the prospect of having it at home to use whenever I want! I just downgrade my original 4 stars to 3:-( hopefully I'll be able to use it without any other problems when I finally receive the parts. Future buyer beware!!!

5great elliptical - especially for the price
By RMI
i researched elliptical machines for several weeks before deciding on the Horizon 69-2. i wanted something that felt like the ones at the gym, without the $2k price tag. this machine had mostly great reviews on amazon and after watching a few you tube videos, we narrowed it down to this one & a live strong. after reading that horizon is made by live strong, we decided to save a few hundred and order this.

the setup took right around 2 hours for my husband and I and we are not very handy. we were also multi-tasking - keeping our 2 small children busy so they wouldnt get hurt on the machine. the directions are written well & have pretty decent pictures. we were impressed with how the hardware was set-up into "steps" so it was opened as needed. it wasnt all over getting lost & we didnt have to waste time sorting through tons of pieces to find what we needed. also included were all the tools needed (minus screwdriver) but my husband ended up using his instead.

the machine seems solid & well built. the stride is perfect - cheaper machines usually have a short stride (18" or less) so for an affordable machine the 20" is great! the ride is smooth, it works in reverse & the console is great...it has several different programs, settings, shows time, calories burned, distance etc. without being too fancy or hard to use. speakers for an ipod/phone hookup (which i have only tested but dont use as we have a radio in workout room.)

i would definitely recommend this elliptical
